Kentucky unemployment rate falls in October

Kentucky's jobless rate dropped from 10.1 percent in September to 10 percent in October, according to www.kentucky.com.

The unemployment rate has fallen below 10 percent only once since February 2009. The October jobless rate is down from 10.7 percent in October 2009. Additionally, Kentucky added 7,300 jobs in October.

Seven of the 11 major industries tracked showed increases with the leisure and hospitality sector adding 3,400 jobs; professional and business services sector adding 2,900 jobs; other services sector adding 2,200 jobs; manufacturing sector adding 900 jobs; educational and health services sector adding 800 jobs; financial activities sector adding 200 jobs; and construction sector adding 100 jobs.

The trade, transportation and utilities sector lost the most jobs, cutting 2,900 positions. In addition, the government sector lost 200 jobs, and the mining and logging sector lost 100 jobs. The information sector was unchanged.
